Location and Issue

A self-styled godman, known as Baba Chaitanya Akash or Aditya Kailash, has constructed an unauthorized temple near a sacred lake in the Suderdhunga river valley of Bageshwar district, Uttarakhand. This temple is built in an eco-sensitive area, leading to local outrage and allegations of desecration.

Construction Details

The temple, built using wood and stone, was erected on land that officials describe as “no man’s land.” The godman reportedly persuaded some local residents to help with the construction by claiming he received divine instructions in a dream.

Local Reaction

Residents have expressed anger and concern, accusing the godman of desecrating the sacred Devi Kund lake by bathing in it. The lake holds significant cultural and religious value for the local community, who traditionally bathe deities in its waters once a year.

Investigative Actions

Local authorities, including Bageshwar District Magistrate Anuradha Pal and Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde, have launched an investigation into the matter. The investigation faces challenges due to the temple’s remote location and difficult terrain. The police are examining the situation from a legal standpoint, while the forest department may be involved due to the temple’s location in an eco-sensitive zone.

Challenges and Controversies

The godman’s background is under scrutiny, with sources indicating he frequently changes his name and has a questionable reputation. His presence in the area followed rejections from other locations such as Dwarahat and Haridwar. The ongoing investigation will determine further actions regarding the unauthorized structure and its impact on the local environment and community.
