Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated Pune concert encountered a major setback after the Maharashtra Excise Department revoked the liquor permit at the last minute. The decision followed strong objections from political parties, including the youth wing of NCP and senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil, along with concerns from local residents and organizations.

The event, scheduled for November 24 at Kakade Farms in Kothrud, faced criticism for potential issues such as open liquor sales, noise pollution, and traffic congestion. To maintain order, police personnel were deployed at the venue amidst ongoing protests.

Permit Revoked Amid Opposition

According to Excise Department SP CB Rajput, the venue owner raised objections to serving liquor at the event, leading to the cancellation of the permit. “We received an application opposing liquor service and acted accordingly. The concert organizers were informed about the decision,” Rajput stated.

Protests from Political Leaders and Residents

NCP Pune President Deepak Mankar voiced opposition, citing cultural concerns and logistical issues. In a press note, he stated, “The program will cause problems like open liquor sales, traffic jams, and loud noise. We demanded its cancellation to preserve the culture of Kothrud. If not canceled, we will launch an agitation.”

Similarly, BJP leader Chandrakant Patil, as the local MLA, opposed the event, calling it a “nuisance to society.” He warned of leading a protest march if the concert went ahead.

Diljit’s Statement on Alcohol and Upcoming Concerts

Earlier this month, Diljit addressed the topic of alcohol glorification during a concert in Ahmedabad. He pledged to stop making songs about alcohol if India declared itself a dry nation, highlighting the revenue dependence on alcohol sales.

Despite the challenges in Pune, Diljit’s Dil-Luminati Tour continues with upcoming performances in:

  • Kolkata – November 30
  • Bengaluru – December 6
  • Indore – December 8
  • Chandigarh – December 14
  • Guwahati – December 29

This incident underscores the ongoing clash between cultural values, entertainment, and social concerns, drawing widespread attention to Diljit’s Pune concert.
