A US military plane carrying Indian immigrants, deported as part of the Donald Trump-led administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, landed in Amritsar on Wednesday. Reports suggest that approximately 200 individuals were onboard, although some sources claim the number varies between 104 and 205.

Deportees Primarily From Northern States

The deportees are believed to be mostly from Punjab, where Amritsar is located, as well as Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. Reports confirm that:

  • 33 individuals each were from Gujarat and Haryana.
  • 30 people hailed from Punjab.
  • 3 deportees were from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
  • 2 individuals were from Chandigarh.

Women, Minors, and Young Adults Among Deportees

The deported group includes 25 women and 12 minors, with the youngest being just 4 years old. In addition, 48 individuals are under the age of 25, highlighting the significant presence of young deportees.

While officials estimate the total number of deportees to be around 200, some local media reports suggest the plane carried 205 people, while others claim the number was 104.
