Pune’s MIT-ADT University Achieves Historic Milestone
MIT Art, Design & Technology (MIT-ADT) University has made history by becoming the first university in Maharashtra to receive recognition from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Khelo India initiative. The prestigious recognition designates the university as a Residential Training Centre for rowing, boosting opportunities for aspiring rowers in the state.
World-Class Sports Infrastructure
The Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT Sports Academy at MIT-ADT is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for rowing, boxing, and swimming. Athletes train under the guidance of national-level coaches, enabling them to perform at elite levels. Many of the academy’s rowers have already represented India in national and international championships, bringing pride and recognition to the university.
Remarkable Achievements in Rowing
Last year, Aditya Kendari, a professor from MIT-ADT’s School of Law, clinched a gold medal while representing India at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship. Following this victory, Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, the university’s Executive President, emphasized how the SAI recognition would serve as a game-changer for aspiring rowers in Pune and nearby regions by providing them with dedicated training facilities.
Leadership Celebrates the Milestone
University officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramchandra Pujeri, Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopde, and Director of Sports Prof. Padmakar Phad, congratulated the sports department for its efforts and achievements.
Additional Recognition for Rowing Development
In addition to the SAI approval, the MIT Sports Academy has been chosen as a Rowing Talent Development Training Centre under the Maharashtra Government’s Lakshya Vedh Initiative. The rowing team, including athletes Bhagyashree Ghule and Anushka Garje, as well as coach Suhas Kamble, has also received special recognition for their contributions.
With this significant milestone, MIT-ADT University is set to enhance sports excellence in Maharashtra and nurture talent for both national and international platforms.
