Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Uttarakhand on Thursday to assess the large-scale destruction caused by heavy monsoon rains, landslides, and flash floods across the state.

PM Modi’s Schedule in Uttarakhand

The Prime Minister will arrive in Dehradun this evening and conduct an aerial survey of the worst-affected areas around 4:15 p.m. to evaluate the scale of damage.

Later, at 5 p.m., he will chair a high-level review meeting with senior state and central government officials. The meeting will focus on relief measures, rehabilitation plans, and infrastructure restoration.

Officials confirmed that tight security arrangements are in place for the Prime Minister’s visit.

Uttarakhand’s Monsoon Disaster

Uttarakhand has been facing severe monsoon-triggered disasters in recent months, including cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods.

  • More than 80 lives lost by early September

  • Nearly 100 people missing

  • Estimated losses of over ₹5,000 crore

  • Massive damage to roads, schools, power supply, and public infrastructure

Thousands of people have been displaced, and many villages remain cut off due to blocked roads and collapsed bridges.

A central government team had earlier visited the state to assess the losses and coordinate aid distribution.

PM Modi’s Recent Disaster Inspections

Earlier this week, PM Modi visited Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to review ongoing rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas. His Uttarakhand visit follows these inspections as the Centre steps up efforts to support disaster-affected regions.

Meeting with Mauritius PM in Varanasi

Before heading to Uttarakhand, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting in Varanasi with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who is on a state visit to India from September 9–16.

The two leaders discussed:

  • Civilisational and cultural ties between India and Mauritius

  • Development partnerships in healthcare, education, science, and infrastructure

  • Future cooperation in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and the blue economy

Their talks built on the momentum of Modi’s visit to Mauritius in March, where ties were upgraded to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
